Part IV: Pumas in the Crevasses!
0402_008.jpg (44324 bytes) While ferrying a load up to Base Camp, climber Dick Bettinger falls into one of the many crevasses on the route. An alert climbing team springs into action!
0402_009.jpg (31360 bytes) Quickly, rope is uncoiled and thrown to our comrade in distress. Like a sack of spuds, Dick is hauled up out of the crevasse, shaken but unhurt. Later, we span this dangerous stretch of ground with a section of aluminum ladder, and continue moving supplies higher up Mt. Sunflower.
